EXTRA! EXTRA!
Congradulations to Joseph Benevides for creating the "Aztlan Track Club" Bay Area Chapter. We will notify everyone on the members and club officers soon.
Joseph Benevides is a Ultra Marathoner and excellent person. He will run some of our events down here in Southern California and in return our members will visit their headquarters and events at the Bay Area.
His uncle ran for the Aztlan Track Club back in 1984 and motivated Joseph to run and create a running club like ours.
Here is the first email that Joseph sent us:
I am happy to hear from you.
My uncle, Ricardo Sanchez ran for Schurr High School and Pasadena City College in the early 80’s. He also ran a lot of road 5K/10K races in LA exposing me to running. He took my younger brother, Eric and I to some Aztlan track races in the area as a kid. I used to live in E. LA and went to Montebello Intermediate before moving to Pomona. My grandma lived off of Atlantic Blvd next to St. Alfonso Church.
I ran track and XC in High School. My fastest mile was 4:58, and in a race it was 5:06. My 2 mile was 11:08, and 5K was 17:56. These times are not very fast, but I only ran until I was a Sophomore. I wish I could run those times now. LOL.
I have maintained jogging/running throughout the years--my love of running never wavering. I train for longer races now (slower, but farther). I plan to run the Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile in Huntsville, Texas in early February. I ran a 33k in SF 2 weeks ago. I am planning to run the North Face Endurance Championship 50K December 5th in Sausalito, CA (my back yard. I train/run my long runs in the mountains in Marin).
It really is a pleasure to hear from you.
