About Us
Introduction
Aztlan Track Club was formed in 1974 in the East Los Angeles area by several well known Chicano runners.
As highly competitive athletes who had competed for years at college and university levels, they saw the lack of awareness most runners had in terms of culture and community.
Their goal in forming Aztlan Track Club was to provide a forum for developing awareness in self and community though the basic philosophies of the Ancient People who once inhabited the entire American continent.
Those ancient beliefs of the Olmec, Apache, Aztec and Mayan Civilizations included the basic concept of achieving self excellance through the unification and harmony between body, mind and nature.
Since the formation of Aztlan Track Club, many members have distinquished Aztlan Track Club with regional, statewide and national running championships.
Aztlan Track Club recognizes that the concept of harmony on body, mind and nature, was not unique to the indiginous Peoples of the Americas but a belief of most ancient civilizations throughout the world.
We also believe that the greatest contribution that an individual can perform is to provide direction to our youth, in athletic endeavors and to temper these skills with growth of mind and body in harmony with nature.
