Co-Founder, Carlos Alfaro has operated Aztlan Track Club since 1974. Carlos Alfaro a South Pasadena resident for twenty three years attended East Los Angeles College and graduated in 1968. After a Thirty-year teaching career that gave him the experience, insights and needs of the community in the Los Angeles area, Carlos made a commitment to integrate sports into everyone’s life’s by setting up the Aztlan Track Club. Some of Carlos's accomplishments are: won several local road races including the 50 K Race in 3 hrs and 3minutes, won the Santa Monica 50 mile run in 6:15.23 in 1970. Along the way, he has won a string of 2 and 3 mile races, his PR in the 2 mile is 9:36 and 14:59 for the 3 mile run. In 1968 he ran the Olympic Marathon Trials. The following four years at Mission Bay, San Diego CA, Carlos ran the Olympic qualifying mark in the Marathon in 2:29:52. Carlos’s favorite track event is the Mile, his PR being 4:30. Presently, he enjoys sharing his love for the sport by mentoring anyone who wishes to break their best times in track and cross country.
Jose Amaya

Jose graduated from Wilson High School which he lettered in varsity 4 times in cross country and track. His best times in HS track were 50.1 in the 440, 1:55.0 880, 4:09.6 mile, 8:53.5 2mile, 13:56.0 3mile, 9:35 Pierce College cross country course. Jose placed 3rd in 2mile state meet , first in HS nationals in the 2mile. 8th in AUU nationals in the 3mile. Jose was LA City champion in track and cross country twice. Jose went to Oregon State University on a Track scholarship running best times 50.0 440, 1:51.0 880, 4:02 mile, 8:48.0 2mile, 8:42 steeplechase, 13:46 3mile, and 28:56 10k cross country. Jose Lettered 4 Times at Oregon State Track going to nationals 3 times. Jose had the pleasure of competing and defeating University of Oregon's track team along with Steve Prefontaine.
